I just updated the software as prompted and the touch sound changed from a pleasant tap sound to an annoying water drip. All I can see to do is turn it off or on, but don't know how to change it.

There is no way to change the setting for the touch sound, just on and off

But you can reduce the volume in Settings - Sound - General - Volume - System.

With all due respect, this answer sidestepped the OP's question. He wants to change the default tap sound, not remove or lower it. If I had the answer, I would be glad to share it with you, but sadly, I do not.

Actually, I feel a little bit bad about stepping in here as a newbie, pointing out a netiquette issue, and then not being able to help the OP. So, I did a little research on this for you. As of now, Samsung has not provided any method to change the default system sounds like some of the other android devices like the phones and maybe other tablets. If you ROM the phone, some of the other ROMS do have such features. If you do not know what a ROM is or how to do it, forget it for now, read up on it, and it is not worth doing just to change one sound. This is advanced stuff and you could render your tab inoperable very easily, which would NOT be covered under warranty.

There is an advanced method to do this, you must root your phone, this is a dangerous thing for someone totally unfamiliar to to, and you can then access the system file area, locate the system drip sound that does play, it is an ogg file, then rename it to save it. Then copy the sound of your choice in ogg format to the same location, rename it to what the original sound file name was, set the proper permissions on the file, and you are done. The drip sound will be replaced with whatever you replaced it with.

XDA has a lot of good information about everything Android, rooting, and ROM'ing. I will give you a link to the post that describes your issue, but unless you are really experienced, do not do this to your tablet! You have been warned.

Such a shame that the OP never came back in here again to find out the answer to his question
and he's not the first.................. :spiteful:

Following Ohmster's advice I renamed "/system/media/audio/ui/S_HW_Touch.ogg" (13.5 K) to S_HW_Touch_ORI.ogg, and then I copied within the same folder Cam_Stop.ogg (4.7 K) to S_HW_Touch.ogg as hopefully the new touch sound, but even after rebooting my rooted Tab2 10.1 the annoying drip sound is still in place unfortunately.

(2013.01.01.Tu.19.57 Hereabove corrected by removing "notifications/" from path between "audio" and "ui".)

looking at a Tab 2 10.1 rom, it looks to me as if the Keyboard drip sound is in : system/media/audio/ui
I see four 'Keypress.ogg' files in there, KeypressDelete.ogg, KeypressReturn.ogg, KeypressSpacebar.ogg & KeypressStandard.ogg
if you play the default ogg files from there, you should be able to locate the one you wish to change

Bart Laroc thank you for the feedback you gave, but no, those four Keypress*.ogg files already contain a short click-like sound and unfortunately none of them is the waterish drip or "ploink" sound that I too wish to replace with something other.

I just tried listening to a few of the others .... TW_Touch.ogg .... sounds like a "ploink"
try renaming that & replace it with a sound of your choice

RS1815, Ohmster and Bart Laroc, thanks a lot, this is super !
a) TW_Touch.ogg applies to main screen touch actions indeed.
b) S_HW_Touch.ogg sounds with the Softkey "Hardware" buttons (Back/Home/Recent [only Back from Recent is silent]).
I happily replaced them both simply with a copy of Cam_Stop.ogg.
The replacement ultimately took effect upon Tab2 reboot.
So now I have the ploink waterish drip annoyance out of the way and something much nicer in place instead.
Many thanks for your great help and advice on this !

Yesterday after receiving a notification I upgraded from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 (the most recent official update in this country.). 250MB and an hour later what did I get?

Apart from some cosmetic changes, the 2 biggest shocks were the infernal water drip sound and my saved web pages being deleted.

I'm not confident in playing with .ogg files, so hopefully down the track Samsung will provide alternative sounds.

The reason OPs dont usually return is because the question is not directly answered. In this instance, the question was about ***changing*** the sound. Some of the replies simply didn't answer the question..

Is there any way to downgrade back down to ICS 4.0.3? I thought the "drip" sound was cute at first, but now it's more like Chinese water torture.

lol @ Chinese torture!

Anyway, are you downgrading JUST because of the annoying drip sound? IMO, that sounds like going from the rubber tire to the square stone. lol

No, I'm not downgrading, I was just asking if it could be done. I unboxed the thing, charged it, and when I turned it on for the first time and did the setup, it said an upgrade was available so I immediately did it. Never even saw what 4.0.3 looked like!

Lol, neither did I. Anyway, I know Jellybean has different sounds altogether for each of the major keys. Sounds fine to me. If it gets annoying, I just turn the sound down or off.
