Hi Folks,

My Galaxy 2 7.0 received the ICS update yesterday to 4.0.4, GREAT!! :clapping:

BUT since then, my Galaxy won't charge!!

I've tried it in the wall (via USB), in my Mac, my PC (also USB) and it just shows the battery icon with a red 'x' through it, and the charge goes down...and down.. and, well, you get the idea!!

Any suggestions?!?! :nea:

HELP!!!!

Me too. Any ideas? Im down to 20percent battery..............

Panic over - although I have the red cross over the battery - suggesting that it is not charging.......I left my tablet connected and power off and have just checked - the charge level is increasing. Not sure why I have suddenly got the red cross - but at least I know that the tablet is not going to die on me! :clapping: :yahoo:

Ahhh Thank you Samsung. The new update to the operating system successfully installed.
It reset and backed up my data, then restarted my Galaxy GT -P3113 7" tab.
Now the tablet will only charge if it is turned off. Anytime I plug it into the charger the Battery Icon has an X through it. After plugging it in all day yesterday I had a wonderful 10% charge to carry around.
Yes Android ICS 4.04 is a great improvement. Evidently it is better to have the device turned off so you are not bothered by those annoying emails or having an alarm wake you up in the morning.

any suggestions on how to get this thing back to the "non-improved" Version?

Did any of you try to contact Samsung regarding this? There aren't that many tab 2 users here and yet we have several with the same problem. I would try a factory reset but that is a huge PITA.

I did a factory reset... no effect... add to that my camera works only sporadically now. It gives a software error after opening so I have to shut it off and turn the Tablet back on.
Samsung also replaced the screen shot icon with an application icon so i have no idea how to take a screen shot now to show anyone the error message, but on the bright side instead of accidentally taking a screen shot i get to exit out of my program to the application ;menu... Love updates.
( i would have attached a screen shot but, oh I already explained... never mind)

You can change the screen shot icon to be one of several different functions. Go to Settings, Display, scroll to bottom and look for Quick Launch. Here you can hide the screenshot softkey altogether, or assign the following: screen capture (default), applications, search, or camera. I accidentally stumbled on that feature just the other day and thought it was pretty cool. Not sure if this was available before the 4.0.4 update though.

About the charging issue, I did the upgrade but luckily don't have that problem. The only time I see a red X is if I'm charging via computer USB, which indicates it IS charging, just much slower.

Have you tried shutting off the tab while charging it? If the red X means "slow charge", maybe having the tab off will reduce power usage enough to actually charge the battery even at the slower rate. Obviously not a long-term solution, but may give you enough run-time to do more troubleshooting before returning the unit as defective.

Thanks I tried to figure this out before but never found it. I tried volume down and power but it didn't work. Is there another way to take a screen shot.

If a factory reset didn't work then I suspect the only option is to send it in to Samsung...

I'm not sure what levels there are to resetting the device, but after reading around online, there is a firmware layer and the OS (android) layer. It sounds like the update applies to the android OS, but not the firmware, so it sounds like the firmware itself might have been messed up somehow.

Found this page which talks about unbricking, but has a link to the actual firmware files. Unfortunately, there seem to be no firmware files for the GT 2 7.0 as of yet. But the firmware page mentions that Kies has a firmware recovery function. Maybe take a look at that?

I guess they'll be fixing a lot of these claims. I love that the guy diagnosed it as not a software problem... well it stopped charging correctly with a software update so it has to be a software problem. My guess is the code was corrupted somewhere in the update. They'll probably just format the drive and load the operating system back. Sorry for your trouble and do give us an update. Oh and i would take a video of you packaging the tablet so if there is any damage you have proof it wasnt caused by you.

FYI: According to Kies, my current firmware is PDA:LG2 / CSC:LG2(XAR)

There is apparently a new firmware version available for me ( PDA:LG5 / CSC:LG5(XAR) ), but when I tell it to update, it pauses for a few seconds then loops back to telling me there is a new firmware update available again and again. So, it won't ever update. Weird. It connects fine, just won't update the firmware. But, seeing as how everything seems to be working fine for me as-is, I'm not too concerned with it and will just leave well enough alone.

Wow, but it's a new charger too right? I read on another forum that people with this problem were buying aftermarket chargers and it was working. I'll see if I can find a link.

Edit, can't find it right now. I think if I were you I'd just return it. Nexus7 ....

Did it charge straight out of the box? Do you guys leave the wall wort plugged in all the time? I wonder if leaving it plugged in causes it to set a thermal fuse like some other electronics that use wall worts. Or maybe in the update they changed the tolerances that the tablet will accept and still charge. There has to be a reason it will charge off but not on. I'm thinking that the power it gets is slightly out of the tolerances meaning a bit too much or too little power I.e. volts, amps but I don't know enough about electronics to know. Anyway, when it's turned off it wouldn't read this and thus charges. This is such a strange thing and I really hope they push an update soon.

I leave my charger plugged in all the time. The tab charges when on or off. I can even charge it using the computer when off. Seems a bit odd you would have two in a row that are bad. It's possible dirty power is causing the problem. A good UPS should help. If I had this issue I would first try charging at a friends house before spending any money.

OTA update. When I unlocked the tablet this morning it was downloaded and waiting to install. I'm not sure what a kies update is? I mean I know you get Kies on your desktop and it can update that way, but I thought it was just another way to get the same update...

Your screenshot looks exactly like mine. Hmm. I wonder what was updated?

The Kies update is when you hook the tablet up to a computer running Kies and Kies can tell you you have an update available.

The last time I hooked it up to Kies, it told me I had a firmware update available and was able to apply it. I'm not sure if Kies will update the OS (android version) as well, or just the firmware. I had already updated the OS to 4.0.4 via OTA update, so the only thing Kies told me to update was the firmware.

The firmware is different than the OS update. I believe the firmware version is the last 3 digits of the build number in your screenshot. Yours shows LG5 which is the most current one and matches what I have.

So, your recent update was either the Android 4.0.4 update or the LG5 update.
