mystery of the the hold button/hold mode

I'm a developer in the process of submitting my app to the
samsung app store. The samsung qa department says the app's
sound should turn off when Hold Mode is enabled.

What is Hold Mode, and which button toggles it on/off?

I've downloaded the US Galaxy Tab 7 manuals, and can't find
any reference to it. Could it be a feature only found in non-USA
models?

The only way that I know to mute the sound, apart from the volume toggle bar, is the silent button.

That can be accessed on the original Tab 7in by pulling down on the top taskbar.....
