Hi Guys,

Im new both to here and the android world.

I apologise if i upset anyone with this thread but Ive been downloading torrent files (ive been told its legal??) and find that even although ive converted them all too MP4, AVI & MKV i can only get the same 6 or so movies to play. Ive downloaded and tried to play a whole heap of various players from the android market but to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

cheers

Thanks for the quick reply.
Ive looked at the "5 tips" post but i must admit im not up to speed with a lot of this.
The torrents i download all play fine through my WD media player but when Ive converted these files to supposedly suit the SGT (have converted to MP4, AVI & MKV) it is always the same 5 or 6 that play - all the others come up with unsupported format error.
Ive played them through Mobo player, the in built player, BS player, Meridian, and a few others, all with the same results. Not sure what this "codec" format is.
When i convert to different formats, does the relevant codec attach itself to the proper format or do i do that manually for each individual file converted.
Thanks for your patience in dealing with someone who really doesnt have a clue.

cheers, ozfifer

I use 'VirtualDub-MPEG2 1.9.11 by Avery Lee'
http://www.virtualdu...g/download.html
(It is recommended that you use the 32-bit version unless you have a specific need for 64-bit execution, as the 64-bit version cannot use 32-bit codecs or plugins.)

when converting a video, I load the original into VirtualDub, open Video options, select 'Full Processing Mode', Compression - Xvid MPEG-4 Codec,
(there is also a 'scan video stream for errors' option, which shows any errors, bottom of the VirtualDub page)
open Audio options, select 'Source Audio',
click 'File', 'Save as AVI', ..... name the file (so you keep the original) ......... click 'Save'
& right click the 'New.avi' file, properties, Details ..... to check the Video & Audio details

run it on the PC to make sure it runs ok, copy to my Tab, & test it runs on there

Have just recently signed up for this forum and came across this post.I also watch some of the torrents on the 8.9 and use a free software called "handbrake" to convert the videos. There is a Mac version. In fact am told that Handbrake originally was specific to Macs, but then later a Windows version was made too. You could Google for the developers site and download it from there. Its pretty easy to use.

I use Mx Video Player to play the converted mp4 vids on the Tab.Its available (free) from the Android market.

Btw, there is a problem with some .mkv vids..I mean some play without conversion while others dont even get tarnsferred to the tab!! Think its a "container" problem more than a "codec" issue. Didnt quite understand Samsungs claim that the device is .mkv compatible though.

Just added: Device Tab 8.9 P7310 Android Honeycomb V 3.2
