Hi -
I was wondering how to connect the Tab 2 to one's PC in order to move files on/off tablet, without using kies. I just want to plug in the USB and be able to use this functionality.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!!

Connect Tab2 to PC WITHOUT Kies
Posted 23 May 2012 - 08:16 AM (#2)
Hi suexicano
Try using the USB lead to connect to your pc with the tab as a mass storage device.
Windows should recognise both the internal and external memories and you can then just drag and drop files, such as jpegs that way.
Sometimes there is a notice "computer doesn't recognise device" just wait a few seconds and then that message should disappear and come up with the view device option.
Some tabs do not need you to go through the "remove device safely" procedure (7 plus for one) this is an automatic function built into the tab. But it varies on what mode you are in. Media player or Jpeg transfer.
The video below will give you an idea.

I have the GT 2 7.0 and assume it works the same as the 10.1 (Yeah, I know assumptions can get one in trouble
). If so, check under the USB Connection notification to see which option is selected. There are 2 options, connect as "Media device (MTP)" and connect as "Camera (PTP)". When I use the MTP option my Win 7 computer connects to the Tab and shows the internal and external storage of the Tab as 2 different drives in Windows Explorer. However, if I try to connect using the PTP option, my computer attempts to install drivers but cannot and my computer can't access the Tab.

Hi
Assuming your Running Windows 7 on your PC, go to 'Control Panel' and open 'Autoplay' which will give you the option to change various actions when things are connected.
Simply......Out There!

I have found that using USB direct is much better than Kies; You can put files just where you want them. For example, Kies put jpegs under Camera in Gallery, but with direct USB you can put them under images where they ought to be.

Whenever I connect to my PC via a usb cable, it hangs on connection. Eventually, I have to load 'Kies', disconnect the tab and run the connection troubleshooter. The driver is reloaded and successful connection is established (when I physically reconnect the tab usb cable) . Following the option to restart the PC, connection is lost and I have to repeat the procedure as once more the tab fails to connect. If I choose not to restart the PC, I can carry out file transfers etc. without problems (though connection is lost sometimes during transfer). Is this a problem experienced by other users and if so, how is it overcome?

Hello,
I have had my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 now for just over 3 weeks and it works perfectly. I connected it to my PC via USB within the first week and it connected perfectly and showed all my folders on my Tablet and allowed me to add folders and transfer files no problem at all. I have now finished reading all my files and wish to transfer new ones, but now when I connect to my PC I see that the tablet is connected but for some reason I cannot see the folders or files that I have on my tablet anymore, basically in Windows Explorer it shows the Tablet as an external device with nothing else. I have done very little to my device since the first time I connected to the pc. All I have done is added a few games and apps. Is this something that can be rectified or can I basically throw my tablet away as my prime reason for having this device is for reading anywhere and anytime without being tied to a computer, and if I cannot transfer files to my tablet then I basically see no reason to have it anymore.
I hear mention of Kies in many other forums, but I have successfully connected to my PC via USB without Kies once and see that it is not necessary.
Anyway I cannot update as it is at its latest update and all other specs are at factory. I am a complete noob so I am not sure how to manipulate it and get advanced details for troubleshooting.
Any help will be appreciated.

Kies may be of assistance...... why don't you try it ?
You also may like to try E S Explorer as an alternative to your default files App...... it has the ability to read shared folders on a network.

Also, I am right letting the new drivers install themselves. You don`t have to manual move them into some other Dir?????

the drivers should install themselves, check you Tab is connecting ok, by looking at the Windows Device Manager,
it should show as an additional USB device when connected, also try different USB sockets on your PC,
failing all that, it could be a faulty USB lead

Hi There. I have looked to see if windows see`s it but it does not and I have tried it in all three usb sockets on my laptop. The Tab indicates by a double ping when you connect the cable up and it also charges so I think the cable is OK.

Sounds more like a windows problem. On the PC in Device Manager> Universal Serial Bus Controller> Uninstall all the device drivers. Shut down the PC(Not restart) Boot the PC up(Win will install its generic USB drivers) and then try the Tablet, It should then install additional drivers if required. If you use KIES all drivers for Samsung compatible drivers will install
Note that all your USB devices that are connected to the PC will re-install drivers. It may take a while
