Galaxy Tab 2 Peel TV remote app ALL questions
Posted 15 May 2012 - 06:21 AM (#1)
I am having trouble with the Peel TV remote App. I seem to set it up alright. I use it for a few minutes and it works well. Suddenly when I try to select a show I want to watch it turns off the TV rather than turning to the channel. After this it usually happens every time where a channel I turn to will just shut off the TV. Another problem that occurs is sometimes when I try and look at whats on by category it says "loading programs" then a few seconds later "no content could be loaded" or something like that. I have tried going through the set up process again a number of times and even deleted the peel update then reinstalled it and nothing seems to work. Anyone know what the problem is?

I am in the UK, and the Tab 2 7.0 has just launched, but there is no IR port / blaster on our version. I am interested in importing one with the IR port, but according to the Samsung developer site there is not an API for the IR at all...
That being the case I want to take a look at how the peel stuff works before I commit, as I want to use the IR in my own app.
Cheers!

I am in a similar boat to you, pretty disappointed to find only US models (GT-P3113) have IR Blaster, all the reviews make quite a bit out of this. I had a look at other models and this seems to be standard, which I find a very strange approach to business from Samsung.

However in the UK the only real functions it can do is to control the volume and change the channels on my Samsung smart TV.
All the other things it can do for the American market just don't feature on UK models. So even if you find a Tab2 with IR it might not give you what you would like.
However, if you can write software, then your laughing

for the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 Peel.apk, google for 'BAMF.Galaxy.Cubed.Redux.1.0.1.zip', download & expand the zip folder, open system/app folder,
there you will see all the stock apk files, Peel is PeelTab.apk

Hi Moderator Blast, Thanks for the input.
I appreciate the Peel software is lacking, both in the USA, and more so here in the UK.
Writing software is not a problem for me, though it's been a while since I have done Java, normally I'm a C/++/# guy. I was excited when I saw the Tab 2 had an IR blaster, as I am currently rolling a tablet control system using multiple formats IR, WiFi and various BUS protocols like I2C, SPI working off of a WiFi bridge. Currently I have a Flyport running software I have written to act as a WiFi to IR bridge, but the added flexibility that an IR blaster on the tablet itself would give me would be great. This system is intended to control all my AV kit, Boiler/central heating, underfloor heating, burglar alarm, and aquarium when finished.
The frustrating thing is that whilst I got a (basic)API easily enough for my alarm panel, Samsung do not have one (allegedly) for the IR on the Tab!
If someone can send me the peel apk, then I intend to reverse engineer it if possible to see how it is communicating with the IR blaster.
Cheers,
MonkeyHunter.

How long does it usually take to get help from Peel? is there another way to get the Peel app to talk to my A/V receiver?

just purchased the galaxy tab 2 7". i'm very happy with it so far, but i downloaded peel this morning and it says i don't have IR Blaster on my tablet... i thought the galaxy tab 2 7" came with IR Blaster??
lots of reviews mention it, e.g.: "The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 has an IR blaster and it comes with the Peel AV remote and TV listing application."
thanks,
dh.

I set up 3 rooms, each has TV, Time Warner Cable.
1st room (where I don't have cable box) I can see all (1-1800) channels including HD (had to remove HD channels), on the app.
2nd room (where I don't have cable box) I can see only SD channels (1-79) on the app.
3rd room (where I do have DVR/HD cable box) I can see only SD channels (1-79) on the app.
I am trying to figure out how to get HD channels showing, all 1800. I did try to Restore default set. I did try to erase room and try again and again.

Is the version of JB you have, an OTA official? There have been problems with custom roms and the IR Blaster.
