Hi guys just thought with ICS looming large for some of you it may be worth while just to give some general pointer(s) for your upgrade arrival. For an ICS "what goods look like" preview then visit my Youtube page by using the link in my signature ;)

So my tips would be as follows.....

1: Kies - yes as much as it is loathed by some i would definitely suggest having it installed on your pc / laptop. So if you havent got it then get it and learn how to use it / get a feel for the lay out & options etc.

Note: Having the drivers installed for your tab on your pc is required for using Odin to manually flash which is a last ditch rescue if all else fails if something went badly wrong.

2: Once you have Kies on your pc then definitely back your tabs content up!
For those who already have it installed make sure its up to date!

3: For those who need Kies Download Here

4: As tempting as it is your tab should not allow you to install ANY firmware updated/upgrades without a certain amount of battery.....just to be sure please please charge your battery fully before upgrading. The last thing anyone wants is a half installed o.s on the tabs as it is one of the most difficult rescue scenarios.

5: Clear any tasks off before you go for it so the easiest way is a simple reboot before install. (probably not needed but something i always do)

6: During the upgrade - go have a cuppa! Do Not mess around with the tab just incase - leave it alone and dont touch the screen.

7: Follow any further on screen instructions.

********************************************************************************************

8: Hopefully now your tab will have successfully upgraded and your data is still intact. :yahoo: PARTY TIME - Welcome to ICS :yahoo:

What if it all goes wrong?????

9: See that first part when we went through Samsung Kies? - Well hook your tab back up to the pc and get Kies fired up.

There is an emergency firmware recovery option within the Kies menus (cant remember as its been a while but think its in options)

Hold up -------- Did you back up as suggested??? -------- You did? - PHEW :D ............and for those that didnt  :fool:

10: Follow any guide that Kies gives you and use the emergency firmware option to try and restore your tab to a working state.

What if that doesnt work for me??

Well im afraid you have 2 options here - 1 = braveness and a bit of reading on your part & 2 = send the tab back to Samsung for repair!

Option 1 involves manually restoring through a bit of software called Odin - we will not discuss that here at this point as hopefully you will not need it.

All the tabs should be within the guarantee period still so i would suggest any soft bricked units be returned to let the manufacturer deal with it for you ;)

Feel free to add to this guide as you guys are the ones with the hands on experience with the Gtabs :good:
