I can reply to you, because I was interested about that.
Pros:
Rooting allows you to install application that need root acces. One exemple is an application that can block some app to connect to internet (like droidwall) Could be usefull to remove ads.
With root access you could also remove Samsung preinstalled apps.

Cons:
Voids your warranty.
Personnaly, I'm also a bit frightened that some apps may use root access for malware.

In the end, I wait for ICS release before thinking again about rooting.

If its rooted, but i would like to use one that has been rooted before i think about doing it.

There aren't really any problems with routing, yes it will void your warranty but you can just flash it again with a fresh unrooted firmware and no one will know the difference... :) although if you make it COMPLETELY unusable like it won't turn on then your screwed, I've rooted, bricked and flashed countless times before and it still works fine.

Rooting shouldn't cause many problems, and it can give you access to some really powerful programs/utilities. For example, I have an app fixes some of the sensitivity issues with the touch screen, but it can only do this with root access. Rooting a tablet can be dead simple, and it's fairly safe. Flashing a new ROM onto the tablet is where it gets tricky.

My advice to you: research and make sure you have clear instructions that you can understand and follow before you try and root the tablet. Make sure you follow the instructions step by step, and don't skip ahead. Good luck!
