Just purchased the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 yesterday. I'm new to Android and to Samsung mobile stuff. The Tab 2 comes with a tiny "getting started" booklet, but apparently the actual User Guide is not yet ready (talked to Samsung Customer Support just now - they don't know when the manual will be ready). So, is there a Android 4.0 for Dummies somewhere?

I'll start with some specific questions. Somehow, I ended up with 2 email programs. Looks like one is Gmail, and one is the email client that came on the Tab 2. Both are receiving mail. I'd like to get rid of one of them, but I can't see how to delete an app. I can bring up the app screen and enter Edit mode, but taping or taping and holding on the app shows some edit selections at the top of the screen, but as soon as I release the tap/hold, the options go away. What am I missing?

Thanks!

Randy

the two email programs are "stock apps" & can not be un-installed without rooting,
the Gmail is usefull if you can not set up your regular email client on the other Email app,
as you can set the Gmail for "Accounts & Import" & "Forwarding & POP/IMAP" (see Gmail settings, on PC)

also with the Email app, users that have rooted & un-installed it, have encountered problems as other apps use the stock Email app also

I have my GMAIL account linked to the GMAIL app (obviously) and my yahoo email linked to the EMAIL app. It seems that you set up your address under both apps. It's sort of like downloading HANDCENT to handle your text messages, but not turning off the notifications on the stock message app. You get notification from both apps. Except these are seperate apps, not a skin over an app.

HI Randy,
I am in Los Angeles and I too got my Tab 2 7.0 Model # GT - P3113 thru Amazon on 24th. After few calls and lot of web searching, I found that :

Thanks for the pointers to the FAQ, and I have found the new User Manual.

But I haven't found the answer to my biggest problem. When I delete e-mail in the e-mail apps, it doesn't appear to be deleted from the server. I'm using my gmail account. On my iPhone, this works fine. There must be a setting I'm missing somewhere???

Thanks!

I'm a new Tab user, and have struggled with a few issues -- first is with the Samsung Email. the problem is that if there are emails in the inbox, and it retrieves new email, the previously retrieved ones in the inbox are deleted and gone from the inbox, replaced with either new ones or, if there are no mew email, an empty folder. I have no way of retrieving them without going to the web service of my ISP. Any ideas for a solution?
Thanks in advance
As a PS, the Gmail App seems to work fine, but I use a different ISP for my regular email

I have the same problem with my Tab 2 7.0. The emails on the tab disappear, once they are downloaded onto my desktop, even after they are previously loaded into my Tab 2. What gives. Is there a toggle for something that leaves them onto my Tab until I delete them. This is how I carry around info. Does anyone have a solution, or a recommendation for a more functioning email client. Is there an update or fix for this? Also, folders would be a big big help.

zMark,

I'm not sure if this is what you're experiencing, but if you haven't experimented with it yet it might be worth trying:

In the top right corner of the email app is an Options icon. Click on it and then click on 'Settings'; under 'Exchange ActiveSync settings', select 'Period to sync email'. I opted for one month, but you might want to have your emails synced for a longer/shorter period. The only longer setting seems to be 'All'.

Recently purchased a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, and some email messages do not appear. The heading, date, time, and signature appear, but the message is blank. Emails from retailers are fine, even the pictures, but messages from individuals are blank. What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

Please sometimes when I toggle between combined view and individual view of my emails, I get the total number of emails as unread. For instance i have 100 emails in my inbox for all my emails. This number will show as the unread email. I find myself clicking each email so it becomes "read" and it can be very annoying.

Can any one provide help on why this happens?

is that with the supplied Email App, the Gmail App or a downloaded 3rd party app ?

& is your Tab 2 7.0 the p3100, p3110 or p3113 ?

Hello Galaxy friends, my first post and brand new Galaxy Tab 2 (P-3113)user/owner. I have prolly a thousand questions,
but I'll start with just one; when I first set up the GT, I put three email accounts, gmail, yahoo and live. What happened
was the contacts from gmail and live were merged and showed up on all three, but none of the yahoo contacts showed up
on yahoo, only the merged list of the other two. Then i removed the live account and unchecked all the sync buttons
of the gmail and yahoo; and I put the live account back on as a new account, also uncheck all the boxes.

Now I only get the gmail contacts and they show up on both live and yahoo too. How do I get my yahoo contacts on yahoo
and my live contacts on live?

PS: live is MSN like hotmail.

thanks, Douglas

with Yahoo! Mail, contacts, "Move your contacts over from another account.", Import Contacts,
import from Gmail & Windows Live Hotmail

back to Contacts, "Got duplicates in your Contacts list? Find and fix them automatically.", Fix Duplicate Entries

click Actions, Export All, Yahoo! CSV: Export Now, ........ save as "yahoo_ab.csv"
(should contain all your contacts now from Yahoo!, Live Mail & Gmail)

open Gmail, Contacts, More, Import, choose file, .... select "yahoo_ab.csv"
in Contacts, More, Find & Merge Duplicates

open Live Mail, Contacts, Import, "comma seperated values (.CSV), browse to & Import "yahoo_ab.csv",
top of the page "Clean up contacts", merge duplicates

now your contacts list should be the same for all three accounts, Gmail, Yahoo! & Live Mail

thanks Bart, but being computer challenged, do you mean follow these directions on my PC or on my GT?
your last sentence, I don't want contacts list the same for all three, I want them separate as,
for Yahoo, I only want Yahoo contactds list; for Gmail only Gmail contact list, etc.
Thanks, Douglas

thanks again Bart. I did exactly as you instructed (I think)and it looks like
all my contacts have merged into one and the giant contact list appears on my
GT on all three of my accounts. one bad thing happened, a
yahoo email was sent out to all my Live mail contacts that I now have a new
Yahoo mail account. I had to go to the Live mail account and send a email to
all to disregard the Yahoo email that was sent in error. Thanks again, pretty sure
the contacts issue is resolved. thanks, douglas
