I have Samsung Galaxy 2 7.0 just bought recently. I bought a new micro SD card 16G and mounted it. but there is no option for me to move to Save or moved download apps to the SD Card. When I goto Settings\applications and can see downloaded and installed application. but when tab open that application, there is option to Force Stop, Uninstall, Clear data, clear cache, etc. But there is no option to Move or Save app to SD card. Please advice.

Thanks
Thai

External SD Card - Honeycomb, ICS & Jelly Bean

About Moving Apps, or not as is the case

If you install a third-party file explorer, Perhaps it is Astro File Manager, or ES File EXplorer. You find that you can read files from your SD card but you always get an error when you try to do a write operation, whether it's copy or move in, delete, or create a new directory.

But it works fine if you use the default file explorer. (My Files)

Turns out Google had for some reason since Honeycomb 3.2 decided to split the write permissions for the internal memory (the path of which is confusingly named /mnt/sdcard) and external SD card memory (the path being /mnt/sdcard/extStorages/SdCard) into WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE and WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE respectively.

Apps to SD

The sdcard is mounted r/w, but the owning group is media_rw which is linked to the WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE permission.
Unfortunately, this permission was not required for access to the external sdcard prior to 3.2 so most file management utilities do not request it when they run...
meaning they only have read access to the card.

Before Honeycomb 3.2, apps only had to request for the permission WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE and they would have write access to both the internal and external so-called "sdcard" sets of memory.
Now, apps have to request for WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE if they want to write to the external SD card, but many of them have not yet been updated to do so yet. This affects file managers / explorer / compression utility type apps most often because users would tend to use them to copy / move / zip files within the file system.

Hopefully in the future, more apps would have been amended to include the necessary permission/security settings.

I am a new Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) owner/user. I placed a 16gb sd card. Is there a way to enable all photos taken with the camera to save automatically onto the SD card? I am confused where the photos go. are they are on the sd card too? Help! Thank you!!

Open your camera App - Press the COG - Then Settings - scroll down to storage - select memory card.

photos taken on the Tab are in 'DCIM' sub folder 'Camera'

Greetings: Can anyone advise on how to manipulate PDFs? Hoping so! So far, I've managed to format the SD card on the Tab, then I collected the dozen PDF files from my desktop Mac, and then reinserted card into the Tab. I am able to see the files in a folder via My Files, and view them with exPDF Reader Lite app, which I downloaded. There's a tickbox next to each PDF. I ticked them and Copied. But the files only copied onto the MicroSD card, not apparently onto the tablet device. (I dismounted the card to verify that they were not on the device's HD. Any advice as to how to transfer onto the Tab harddrive much appreciated!.
Richard

Hi everyone,
very happy to find this forum with so many Galaxy tab users..
I just got myself a GT-P3110 (Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 - wifi only) tab with built-in 16 Gb mem.
I would like to ask what kind of Memory card should I get.
On the manual, it says that it support MicroSDHC cards with maximum capacities of 32 Gb.
However, I read that some of you is able to get a 64Gb to work with it.. May I ask is this true and what is the exact brand/model that I should get ? does the card comes formatted or must I format the new card ?

Thanks
Chris

Wanting to add additional storage to my 8gb GT.

Read somewhere that cards need to be formatted to FAT32 ----------- but then read elsewhere that the HC cards are already defaulted this format. Am totally unfamiliar with this process and wanting advice if I need to do this. If so, how to go about it please, and thanks.

Thank-you Bart; really appreciate your guidance! Very helpful. Just completed, and see total space 14.81 GB; nicely executed and painless, once you know how.

By "MMC", I assume you mean micro SD? Because only microSD will fit in the tablet unless you are using the USB adapter and a MMC reader.

Local store prices in my area seem to range from around $25 to $40 for a 32GB microSD card. Online retailers such as Newegg.com have then as low as around $20.

As far as what is "best", that is subjective. Higher speed cards cost more, but don't really benefit too much unless you are transferring files often, and even then, there may be bottlenecks affecting the transfer speed which has nothing to do with the card itself. If you want to take advantage of the increased speed of faster SD cards, you'd have to remove the card and insert it into a reader that is attached to your PC, but moving it back and forth is a pain in the butt IMO due to its small size.

If you want something reliable, I would stick to the more known brands like Sandisk, Kingston, PNY, etc.

Every time the unit is rebooted or turned off and back on it seems like this message and access to the 32GB SD card takes hours, if it ever finishes. I have left it overnight and still have the message 8-10 hours later.
Anyone know how to turn this off, or change it to do a faster check?
Thanks

I have a class 4 16 GB SD card in my Tab. In 45 seconds the start screen is ready and in 75 seconds the WiFi is connected and all functions are operational. The "Preparing the SD card" message appears for 2 seconds and is gone in 50 seconds after pressing the on button. I only have about 3 GB on my SD card split between pictures and music. I have 3 GB free internal memory. I hope this is helpful.

Format your SD card in the Tab itself..... or try a different card........ looks like it's slow because the Tab is having difficulty reading it.
could be a 'bad' file on the SD card.

I recently bought a tab 2 7.0 and it's great. However I seem to have a problem moving my movie files onto a sd card that I bought. Can anyone please give me some advice as to how this is done.

It really is annoying me, I've looked all over the net and can't find any info about transferring files onto the sd card, any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
